Why Visit Bude?

Poppies at West Pentire

Bude is a beautiful resort right on the stunning North Cornwall Coast.

I fell in love with it whilst walking along the whole of the famous South West Coastal Path. I chose Bude as my happy place because it ticked lots of boxes, rugged coastline, glorious walks, sandy beaches, beautiful sunsets, and most of all a friendly town with a fantastic community.

There are activities for everyone, including swimming in the Bude Sea Pool, building sandcastles for the little ones, lots of water-sports including kayaking, paddle boarding, body boarding and of course surfing.

Northcott Mouth Beach allows dogs all year round and the main beaches in the evenings too so there’s plenty to do with your furry friend too.

There are many walks to explore, the flatter canal walk as well as the tougher cliff top walks to Widemouth and Sandymouth along the Southwest Coastal Path. There is even an exciting shipwreck, The SS Belem, which you can see some of if you walk along the beach near Northcott Mouth towards Sandymouth at low tide.

If you love nature, wild life, walks, local crafts and joining in with local events, then I’m sure you’ll find Bude to be your happy place as it is mine.

You’ll find lots of information at the Bude Information Centre and “Visit Bude” has a great fun map and information of all the pubs and dining areas to make your stay even more enjoyable. https://www.visitbude.info

If you are staying for a few days, then Bude has everything you’re likely to want and leaving you wanting to come back for more….

However, if you do want to venture to other local areas there are plenty of places to visit within an hour or so of Bude.

Clovelly

A privately owned Harbour village in North Devon. (See photo)

Cobbled roads and no cars - it’s beautiful and ensures you slow down - warning - the bill to the harbour is steep.

Port Isaac

This is the home of Doc Martyn, so if you like the TV show it’s a must to visit.

Again in the summer is best to park up the top and walk rather than drive-through because the roads are so narrow.

Padstow

Is a bustling town in the summer and of course why not try Rick Stein’s fish and chips.

West Pentire - Polly Joke  (near Newquay)

If you’re fortunate to visit the area in May June and early July then you’ll see an amazing array of red poppies and the sea in the background - definitely worth the drive (see photo).

Boscastle

A tiny village fishing harbour port which became famous with the flood of 2004.  If you get the tide right then there is an amazing blow hole.

Tintagel

Famous for its castle, is situated on the Clifftops of North Cornwall - definitely worth a visit and if you are an English heritage subscriber then it’s included in the price.
